The largest and most diverse conservation enclave in Nigeria |
BACKGROUND
Gashaka-Gumti is Nigeria’s largest and most scenic of all the seven National Parks. Geographically, this Conservation area lies between 6o.55’ and 8o 05 latitude north, and between 11o 11’ and 12o 13’ longitude east. It covers a total area of 6,731 sq. km, located in the north-eastern part of the country in Adamawa and Taraba States, close to the Mambilla Plateau, and close to the international border with Cameroon.
The Park experiences varying but pleasant weather conditions, depending on specific locations within the Park. This ranges from tropical dry humid, tropical moist humid in the lowlands to sub- temperate climate on the high plateau around Chappal Waddi, Chappal Hendu and Filinga. Areas adjoining the Mambilla Plateau experience mostly cool, cloudy, misty or breezy conditions with rarefied air similar to that of the Mediterranean region.
